Project Review: Tech Refresh of TAMS Project
This is a Tech Refresh project to upgrade an attendance system which is running for around 7 years. The objective of this project is to upgrade the server from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2019. This system is used by a listed company in Singapore. There are more than 1000 active users daily. This system includes 1 web application, 1 ClickOnce Application, and 9 Windows Services. Besides that, there are more than hundreds of devices deployed in the client’s building. In this case, we have to be highly engaged with their AD, Cloud, Server, Security, and Network teams to ensure everything is set up properly before the system cutover. This project takes 6 months to complete including the UAT testing, Production Provisioning.
My responsibility in this Project:
- Re-deploy all the applications and services on the new Azure VM and make sure they are working.
- Upgrade all .NET 3.5 Windows Services to .NET 4.8
- Reverse Engineer the missing source code and store it properly in the company’s local SVN.
- Troubleshoot and deal with the external team to ensure the environment is set up properly.
- Web application bug fixing.
- Apply fixes for detected vulnerabilities in the penetration test.
- Ensure the project is in progress as the Project Manager planned.
- Report the progress and any issue frequently with the Project Manager.
- Align and communicate with Change Management Team and Project Advisor from the client side.
- Document Preparation.
